Pictooptic (Philip Bell)

Q: Why do you have a Brutalist Website?
A: In web the strongest design element is top-left alignment. Pictooptic's main design element breaks that standard by using center alignment. It's like a line is cut through the center of the screen and graphics are pouring out. It's unusual to be fed visuals like this and the results are entrancing. There are no directions on how to use Pictooptic so there's a moment of "wtf is this?" that gives way to "ohhhh sh*t that's cool". That moment when you realize how expansive it is beyond the simple UI makes an impact.
Q: Who designed the website?
A: I designed the layout, UI and UX of the site. All of the icons are pulled from The Noun Project API which sources a global pool of icon designers. More information on the design is available at philipbell.org.

Q: Who coded the website?
A: I did, with the help of a few friends and stack overflow. I found lots of scripts online and re-tooled them for Pictooptic.
Q: With what kind of editor?
A: Atom for the main build. Codepen for sketching out experiments with trigonometry and animations. Chrome dev tools for de-bugging and prototyping quick little scripts.
